The Value of Instant Payments

Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:13

Payments Advisory Group attended the EACHA Payments Forum in Amsterdam last week. Here are our key take-aways:

  1. Instant Payments – a Simple Concept but a Complex Challenge
  2. The Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) – Banks Opening their Doors
  3. Keeping Payments Safe and Secure

Why cash remains king

Monday, 06 March 2017 00:00

That the future of cash has become hotly debated there can be no doubt. Many observers predict the demise of notes and coins as an outdated and obsolete mode of payment. Yet cash is very much alive – and here to stay as a payment method, precisely because it is convenient, anonymous and safe. Globally 85% of payments are made in cash, and the amount of cash in circulation is growing, not shrinking.

The Payments Paradox – eh what?

Wednesday, 18 January 2017 00:00

Banks increasingly need to deliver more, faster for less: the payments paradox.

The payments market is undergoing a dramatic and structural change, driven by a powerful mix of consumer demands, technology changes, new entrants as well as by regulatory changes and industry initiatives. It goes deeper than the evolutionary developments we have had in the recent past. It will impact the many players that constitute the payments value chain. In this paper, we would like to provide a view on how this affects the banks, the traditional players that sit where infrastructural payments rails and innovative customer products meet.

First Instant Payments Training very succesful!

Participants of the first official Instant Payments training session for Business Leaders and IT professionals rated the training with an average score of 8.3! In the meantime 2 new sessions are already scheduled and fully booked for January 2017. Interested in what this training could mean for you or your company, please see Instant Payments Training.

By the way, did you know that you can use this training to quickly expend the knowledge base within your (programme) organisation, allowing you to accelarate your Instant Payments implementation.

Over the last few years, much hype has been created over virtual currencies such as Bitcoin and its underlying technology, the distributed ledger technology, commonly called the blockchain. What is Blockchain? Is it a hype, or a real game changer. This article concludes that after inflated expectations Blockchain is now entering into the Trough of Disillusionment.

The question of an exact definition for VC's leads to a whole series of subsequent questions, namely whether VCs should be regulated, and if so, how and by whom? What will the future hold for VC's?

Given the listed advantages of Virtual Currencies the question can be raised whether banks are needed for payments at all. Can one envisage a payments industry which does not need banks for payments any longer?
